Mami Tomotani

International Dancer, Choreographer, & Movement Director

 

Mami Tomotani is an acclaimed international dancer, choreographer, and movement director currently based in London. She recently starred as Guts of Winter in Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre’s 2026 London production of A Life in Four Seasons. Her recent high-profile credits also include featuring as a dancer in the music video for pop icon Will Young’s single "Falling Deep," performing alongside Kazue Taguchi’s art installation at The Museum of Arts and Design in New York, and collaborating with bandoneonist Yukie Kawanami at the Fukuoka Art Museum.

 

A long-time muse and collaborator of Sir Matthew Bourne, Mami has been an integral artist member of New Adventures since 1999, frequently performing principal and character roles. Her extensive credits with the company include the Tony Award-winning Swan Lake, Nutcracker!, The Car Man, and Highland Fling. Notably, she starred in the Drama Desk Award-winning production of Edward Scissorhands, achieving a historic milestone during the 2023–2024 UK tour as the performer with the most appearances in the production's history. She also toured internationally with Bourne’s Sleeping Beauty—which won The Stage International Award in 2017—performing at landmark venues such as the Ahmanson Theatre (Los Angeles), New York City Center, and The Kennedy Center (Washington, D.C.). Over an illustrious career spanning more than 18 years, Mami has toured extensively across the UK (including Sadler’s Wells and the West End), the USA, Japan, Australia, Europe, and Asia. In 2024, she served as the Resident Director for the New Adventures UK tour of Doorstep Duets, alongside performing in the charity production HUM.

 

Mami’s versatile stage presence extends to major international productions, including The King and I at London’s Royal Albert Hall and engagements with the Landestheater Ballet Linz in Austria. She began her professional career at the age of 15 upon joining the legendary Shiki Theatre Company, where her prominent musical theatre credits included CATS (Bombalurina and Victoria), Jesus Christ Superstar, West Side Story, The Phantom of the Opera, Aspects of Love, and Hans Christian Andersen. She also starred as Iris Kelly in the Suisei Company’s production of FAME. Mami received her formidable training at the Kawazoe Ballet School in Fukuoka and the prestigious Shiki Academy in Tokyo.

Mami is a highly sought-after international educator and currently serves as the Artistic Director for Mid Manhattan Performing Arts, an intensive training program for Broadway musical theatre.

友谷 真実（Mami Tomotani） ダンサー／振付家／ムーブメントディレクター。

現在はロンドンを拠点に世界を舞台に活躍。

福岡シティ川副バレエ学苑、三ノ上万由美バレエスタジオでバレエを、黒田バレエスクールにてコンテンポラリーダンスを学ぶ。15歳で劇団四季に合格し、16歳から数々のミュージカルで活躍。

 

その後、英国を代表する巨匠マシュー・ボーン率いる「ニュー・アドベンチャーズ」に日本人として初めて入団。以来、主役（プリンシパル）および重要なキャラクター役を数多く務める。同カンパニーでは『くるみ割り人形』の主役クララをはじめ、『シザーハンズ』『Highland Fling（愛と幻想のシルフィード）』、トニー賞受賞作『白鳥の湖』『ザ・カーマン』『眠りの森の美女』など主要作品に総なめで出演。なかでも『シザーハンズ』には2023〜2024年のイギリスツアー（4シーズン目）にも出演し、同作における世界最多出演キャストという歴史的快挙を達成した。2024年夏には、同カンパニーのチャリティー部門「Doorstep Duets」の作品『HUM』で出演を果たすと同時に、英国ツアーのレジデントディレクターに抜擢された。

 

近年もロンドンおよび国際舞台の最前線に立ち続けており、2026年には名門リージェント・パーク・オープンエアー・シアターの『A Life in Four Seasons』にGuts of Winter（冬の直感／ガッツ）役で出演し、高い評価を獲得。英国女王の前での御前演奏でも知られる国民的ポップシンガー、ウィル・ヤングの新曲『Falling Deep』のミュージックビデオ（2024年）にもダンサーとして出演した。また、ニューヨークの「ミュージアム・オブ・アーツ・アンド・デザイン（MAD）」にて美術家・田口和奈のインスタレーション作品と融合したパフォーマンスを披露したほか、福岡市美術館ではバンドネオン奏者・川波幸恵とのコラボレーション舞台を行うなど、他ジャンルのアートとの革新的な共演も重ねている。

 

世界的大ヒット舞台『ハリー・ポッターと呪いの子』日本公演（ホリプロ&TBS）ではアソシエイト・ムーブメントディレクターを務めるなど、クリエイターとしても第一線で活躍。 振付家としては、映画『フェーム』のモデルとなった名門ニューヨーク・ラガーディア芸術高校にて『サウンド・オブ・ミュージック』（シューベルト財団フェスティバル選出作品）や、演劇『プライドと偏見』『キルトに綴る愛（世界初演）』『Compleat Female Stage Beauty』の振付を担当。ピッツバーグ大学ミュージカル『Zanna, Don’t!』のほか、ニューヨークや日本で発表したコンテンポラリー作品『ジュピター』『フラミンゴ』（2025年）など数多くの作品を手がける。

 

コンクール指導・作品振付の分野でも卓越した成果を上げており、YAGP（ユース・アメリカ・グランプリ）NY大会トップ12をはじめ、国際バレエコンクール第1位、ラトビア国際バレエコンクール銀賞などへ受講生を導く。2024年・2025年の「Jewels Festival」でも第1位や上位入賞（トップ5）を連続受賞させている。

 

振付助手・リハーサルアシスタントとしては、マシュー・ボーン『ドリアン・グレイ』日本公演のほか、ホリプロミュージカル『メリリー・ウィー・ロール・アロング』（マリア・フリードマン演出、ティム・ジャクソン振付）の第1幕を担当した。

演劇の名門「ネイバーフッド・プレイハウス」やNYのHariyama Ballet、ジョフリー・バレエ・サマーインテンシブ、ステップス、カーネギー・メロン大学、プリンストン大学をはじめ、全米・日本・英国など世界各国でコンテンポラリー、シアターダンス、バレエの指導・ワークショップを展開。

 

チャコットのWebマガジンにて「踊りある記」を好評連載中。
